Bio
Tomas accepts briefs in all criminal matters, including briefs to appear for the defence and prosecution, both at first instance and in appeals. Additionally, Tomas accepts briefs to appear in a wide range of other areas of law including inquests, commissions of inquiry, disciplinary proceedings, environmental, crime and asset confiscation and regulatory matters.
Prior to coming to the Bar Tomas worked for the Aboriginal Legal Service, the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency and as a Crown Prosecutor at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in the Northern Territory.
Tomas is an experienced advocate and has appeared at all levels of criminal proceedings including complex evidentiary matters, jury trials and appeals, both led and unled. Tomas has appeared in the New South Wales Local Court, District Court and Supreme Court, as well as the Northern Territory Local Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.
Tomas has a keen interest in Evidence Law having authored a paper titled “section 32(1), 32(3), 33 and 38 of the Evidence Act (NSW): An analysis, explanation and guide” and lectured at Charles Sturt University on topics of Evidence Law.
